Firefighters contended with difficult conditions, including frigid temperatures and large snowbanks, at an overnight fire in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood that spread to a connected building. The Boston Fire Department says it was called to a home at 21 Juniper Street around 1:30 a.m. Friday for a fire that was in the ceiling and had traveled to the eaves across the roof to 23 Juniper Street.Crews had to use multiple ground and roof ladders to access the fire, the department said, and firefighters also had to run multiple hose lines across the snow banks. The bitter cold temperatures — five degrees, according to the fire department — froze many of the fire hose couplings and even one of the ground ladders in place. The fire department says this shows you the importance of shoveling out hydrants near your homes so that firefighters don’t have to climb over the snow banks in an emergency. No injuries were reported, according to the fire department. Five people were displaced by the fire, and they will be assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. This story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser.
